Castle Crashers

I've Been Playing This Game A Lot For The Last Couple Of Days. Its A XBOX Live Arcade Title And Goes For 1200 Microsoft Points.
Its Pretty Damn Sweet! You Can You Use One Of Four Characters, Pictured Above, At The Start Of The Game, But As Time Passes, You Can Unlock Extra Characters And Weapons. You Can Also Collect "Animal Orbs" That Can Help You In Certain Tasks.
The Game Itself Kind Of Reminds Me Of Golden Axe In A Lot Of Ways As Far A Gameplay Goes Except As You Go Along, You Get Experience Points You Can Use To Improve Your Stats.

Verdict: A Fun New Game That Plays Like An Old School Side Scroll Adventure. Check It Out.

TrebucheT At The Rubber Gloves 8.16.08

I Didn’t Get The Interview With Justin That I Was Trying For This Past Saturday, But It Was A Killer Show.

Moving Atlas Opened. I Had Seen Them Once Before With TrebucheT At Andy’s A Couple Of Weeks Ago. They’re Pretty Good. Anyway, They Played Their Set And Near The End, Randy, The Singer For A Band Called Silent City, Came Out And They Did An Cover Of Sade’s “Ordinary Love.” It Was Bad Ass.

Moving Atlas With Randy Of Siren City

Atlas Finished Up And After A Short Break, Siren City Came On. These Guys Are AMAZING. Randy’s Sound Reminds Me Of A Few Different People; Maynard James Keenan Of Tool, Geddy Lee Of Rush, And Claudio Sanchez Of Coheed And Cambria. The Melodies Are Amazing. The Band Is Tight. They All Play Really Well Together. Its Definitely Worth Checking Out. And Then, Of Course, There Was TrebucheT.

I’ve Known Justin Hawkins Since I Was 12 Or 13 Years Old. We Went To Junior High Together And Lived Pretty Close To Each Other. I Know That He’s Been Playing Guitar Since At Least Then And He Was Pretty Good When We Were Kids. He Doesn’t Play Guitar In TrebucheT, But The Man Has Seriously Honed His Skills As A Singer And As A Lyricist. True, I Am Kind Of Biased, But I Know Good Tunes When I Hear Them And These Guys Are Good. So, If You’re Ever In Denton, Make Sure To Keep An Eye Out For These Guys. Their Next Show, As Of Right Now, Is Saturday October 4th At Dan’s Silverleaf. They’ll Be Playing With Spoonfed Tribe, Siren City And Linus. Sounds Like A Good Time.

Trebuchet

The Out Of Square Comics Crew Will Be Representing This Weekend At The Rubber Gloves. Saturday Night At 9PM Some Good Friends Of Ours, Trebuchet, Will Be Playing With Siren City And Moving Atlas. So, If You're In The Denton, TX Area, Come Out And Say What's Up To Justin And The Guys. Also, I Should Have And Interview With Them, So Be Looking For A New Podcast Soon. This One Will Be Done With A Digital Voice Recorder And Not Skype, So No Worries On Audio Quality This Time. Once Again, I Would Like To Apologize To Chandra Free  And Kyle Jones For The Terrible Audio Quality In Their Interviews...Just FYI, Chandra's Comic, The God Machine,  Should Be Coming Soon. I'll Let You Know Something As Soon As I Find Out.

One Day As A Lion

HOLY CRAP! Zak de La Rocha Is Back In A BIG BAD WAY! He Has Teamed Up With Former MArs Volta Drummer, Jon Theodore On A Project Called One Day As A Lion And They Are Making The Coolest, Realest, Most Hardcore Music I've Heard In A Long, Long Time... Their EP Comes Out On 7-22. Check It Out.

The band writes:

“One Day As A Lion is both a warning delivered and a promise kept.”

“A defiant affirmation of the possibilities that exist in the space between kick and snare. It’s a sonic reflection of the visceral tension between a picturesque fabricated cultural landscape, and the brutal socioeconomic realities it attempts to mask. One Day As A Lion is a recorded interaction between Zack de la Rocha and Jon Theodore from Los Angeles, California.”

“The name taken from the infamous 1970 black and white, captured by legendary Chicano photographer George Rodriguez featuring a center framed tag on a white wall in an unspecified section of Boyle Heights. It reads: ‘It’s better to live one day as a lion, than a thousand years as a lamb.’ This record is a stripped down attempt to realize this sentiment in sound.”

Hellboy II: The Golden Army

I Went And Saw Hellboy II Last Night And It Was Pretty Good. I Don't Know If I Would Have Paid More Than 6 Bucks To Watch It In Our Crappy Theater...
Anyway, The Action Was Good. The Creatures All Looked Fantastic. The Golden Army Was Cool. I Don't Really Have Anything Bad To Say About It, But It Did Feel Like It Was Lacking Something. I Can't Quite Put My Finger On It.

Toys!

God, I Love Toys. Action Figures, Statues, Maquettes, Models, Bobble Heads, You Name It...
On A Recent Trip To Target, I Found This Cool Stuff.
This Is A Target Exclusive Battle Rancor With A Felucian Rider And Saddle.
This Sweet Little Number Is A "Taters Of The Lost Ark" Indiana Jones Mr. Potato Head. You Can Push The Top Of His Hat To Play The Theme Song...

I Made A Post About Mighty Muggs Before. I Really Like These Guys And They're Made From 100% Recycled Material, Which Is Pretty Cool. Not To Mention They Look Awesome.

Anyway, Thought I Would Share...

Ex Machina

I Just Read The First Ex Machina Trade, The First Hundred Days. The Book Was Written By Brian K. Vaughan (Y: The Last Man) With Art By Tony Harris (Starman) And Published by DC/Wildstorm Comics. I Had Checked It Out A Few Times For The Art, But Never Got Into It Due To An Overpopulated Pull List. I Would Have To Say, Its Pretty Damn Good. The Whole Post 9-11 Political Commentary Thing They Have Going On Is Pretty Cool. The Art Is Fantastic. The Dialogue All Seems Very Natural, Which Is Important In A Story Like This. That Really Goes For Any Story. They Didn’t Mess Around Developing The Characters, Which Was Told Mostly In Flashbacks. They Got In There And Got It Done. By The End Of This Book, I Really Felt Like I Knew These Characters, Their World, And What Was Going On In It, Which Is A Nice Departure From The Norm. They Didn’t Screw Around For Twenty Issues Trying To Make You Guess What Was Happening, Although There Is A Few Things They Left Open For Good Measure. They Jump Right Into The Story And Just Immerse You In This Alternate Timeline. Like I Mentioned Before, They Did Not Answer ALL The Questions, So, I’ll Continue To Pick This One Up In Trade. I Think Its Pretty Needless To Say At This Point, But Enjoyed It A Lot. I’d Suggest Keeping An Eye Out For At Your Local Comic Shop Or Book Store. As Always, I’ll Keep You Posted.

This Game Looks Awesome, But There Has Been A Lot Of Hype Surrounding It. I Really Hope It Can Deliver...

Jon Boy Meyers

In The Last Couple Of Issues Of JLA I’ve Read There Have Been These Cool Back Up Stories. The Guy Doing The Art In Them Is Jon Boy Meyers. I Don’t Know If You’ve Ever Seen Any Of His Stuff, But If You Haven’t You Should. He’s Got This Cool Art Style. Its Realistic And Cartoony At The Same Time. Check out JLA #18 To See What I’m Talking About. Doctor Magnus Looks More Pimp Than I’ve Ever Seen Him. His Red Tornado Is Amazing. Anyway, Just Thought I’d Rant A Little Bit…

A Tribute to Mike Wieringo

I Had Totally Forgot About This...
Just Before Mike Wieringo Died, He Was Working On A Marvel What If... Book About The Fantastic Four. After He Passed, Marvel Donated The Seven Pages To The Hero Initiative And It Was Completed By Mike's Some Of Friends And Comic Book Brethren.
That List Includes: Jeff Parker, Arthur Adams, Paul Renaud, Stuart Immonen, Cully Hamner, Alan Davis, David Williams, Sanford Greene, Humberto Ramos, Skottie Young, Mike Allred, Barry Kitson, and Val Staples. The Cover Artwork Is By Mike With Paul Mounts. The Book Is Being Published By The Hero Initiavite With The Full Support Of Marvel And Mike's Family.
I'm Definitely Going To Check It Out. Mike Was An Amazing Talent In The Industry, A Phenomenal Artist And, From What Everyone Says, One Hell Of A Nice Guy. The Book Will Be Available For $4.99 On June 25th. I Would Suggest Everyone Check Out This Book Because Of The Talent That Went Into, But Even Looking Past All Of That, Its All Just For A Good Cause For A Great Artist.

Fantastic Four: The World's Greatest Heroes

You Can Watch A Lot (Maybe All) Of The Episodes Of The Recent Fantastic Four Animated Series Over At marvel.com. For Free. And Who Doesn't Like That? While You're Over There, Check Out The "I'm A Marvel-I'm A DC" Videos. Despite Being More Of A DC Guy, They're Pretty Funny.

We Go In Depth About Superman/Batman #46 And A Pretty Unhealthy Input Section... Check It Out Right Here.

Caliber #1

Published By Radical Comics

By Sam Sarkar & Garrie Gastonny

I Just Read My First Book From A New Publisher Called Radical Comics. From What I Can Deduce From One Issue, The Story Set In The Late 1800’s. Its Almost Like Two Stories. One Being From A Half Native American Half Frenchman’s Perspective And One Has To Do With An Army Lieutenant. It Seems To Me Like A Civil War Excalibur Story Centered Around This Pistol Instead Of A Sword, Which Is A Pretty Cool Idea. It Also Has This Cowboys And Indians Vibe Going For It That I Like A Lot.

The Artwork And The Cover I Got Were Pretty Amazing. The Color Is Phenomenal. The Paper Was Nice And The Book Actually Had A Solid Spine With, Get This, No Staples. Its Like A Single Issue Sized Trade Paper Back. The First Issue Was $1.00. So, It Wasn’t A Lot Of Money To Check Out And Like I Said, I Think The Story Is A Good Idea. I’ll Probably Be Picking This One Up. I’ll Let You Know…

I Also Picked Up Hercules By This Same Publisher, Which Is In The Same Format And Was At The Same Price. I’ll Keep You Posted.

Guardians Of The Galaxy

Just For The Record, I Absolutely Love The Marvel Cosmic Stuff. I Cut My Teeth On Warlock And The Infinity Watch Back In The Early 90's. I'm A Big Silver Surfer Fan. I Think Richard Rider Is A Pimp. I Believe That Galactus Is One Of The Baddest MoFos In The Marvel Universe.
Anyway, I Just Got Through Reading Guardians Of The Galaxy #1. Let Me Just Say...It Was Really Cool. I Think The Team Roster Is Pretty Good: Star Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Quasar, Gamora, Adam Warlock And Drax. Apparently, The Original Quasar Is Long Gone And In His Place Is A Hot Chic, Which I Am Totally OK With. Gamora, Drax, And Adam Were All Infinty Watch. So, I've Known Their Stories For About 15 Years. Adam Was Recently Reborn. He Believes Its To Keep Another Annihilation From Happening. I've Known Who Star Lord Was For A Long Time, But Haven't Really Ever Read Anything With Him In It And I'm Not At All Familiar With Rocket Raccoon, Which I Am Told Is Heresy.
I'm Liking That Marvel Is Pretty Much Letting Writers Dan Abnett And Andy Lanning, Who Also Write Nova And Penned Much Of The Annihilation: Conquest Series Books, Go Freakin' Buck Wild Out In Space. So, Needless To Say, The Writing Is Solid. It Has Some Pretty Nice Artwork By Paul Pelletier And A Slick Cover By Clint Langley.
I'm Still Into Nova And Enjoying It A Lot Also. Either Of These Titles Is Worth The Three Bucks. So, Check One Or Both Of Them Out, If You're Into That Sort Of Thing.

Now I Just Hope We Get A Warlock Solo Book And None Of The Guardians Are A Skrull...

Shark-Man

Well, I Just Checked A Little Book From image Comics Called Shark-Man. My Immediate Reaction Is That The Art By Steve Pugh, Who Also Did The Scripting, Lettering, And Cover On The Issue I Picked Up (#2), Is Beautiful. Its Almost A Painted/Photorealistic Style. Very Nice. Anyway, The Setting Is Cool. Its This City Called New Venice That Was Built As Some Kind Of Island Utopia. So, The Landscapes, Or Seascapes Rather, Are All Open And Cool. They Really Went All Out With The Ship Designs. They Look Like Huge Fish Or Something. All The Women Are Beautiful, Even The Sea Witch, The Leader Of The Pirate Gang. The Story In This Issue I Enjoyed A Lot. This Big Wig Builds A Casino Ship And Its Attacked By Pirates. Shark-Man Swoops In At The Last Second And It Leaves You On Kind Of A Cliffhanger. He’s Actually Only Shown Three Times In The Story, Which Says Something For The Development Of Some Of The Other Characters. This Is One I’ll Probably Pick Up In Trade, But It Was A Good Read. Anyway, Until Next Time…

Mighty Avengers

Mark Bagley’s Splash Pages In Mighty Avengers, Particularly In #8 And 9, Are Awesome.
That Guy Is A Phenomenally Talented.
Usually I Think Splash Pages Are Showy And Unnecessary, But I Changed My Mind…
Now, I Think Splash Pages Are Showy And Unnecessary Unless Your Work Is On Par With Bagley.

Everything You Never Wanted To Know About Dan Piraro

Here Is A Pretty Cool Little Short Film About The Creator Of The Comic Strip Bizarro. Just Thought I'd Share. Enjoy!

Walking Dead

So I Picked Up The First Walking Dead Trade On Kyle's Recommendation, As I Mentioned Before. I Read It Today AND It Was OK. I'll Probably Check Some More Of It Out, But It's Just Not Really My Cup Of Tea. Definitely Not Something I'll Be Rushing Out To By All Nine Trades Of And Then Switch To Monthly. Don't Get Me Wrong, I Thought The Story Was Presented Well And The Art Was Awesome. Sorry, Kirkman, But I'm Sticking With Invincible.
